“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need.”
My understanding
Life has a way of surprising me. I might chase something with all my heart, convinced it is exactly what I need, only to find myself empty-handed. It is frustrating, even unfair. But then, after some time passes, I realize something unexpected—I got something else instead. And more often than not, it turns out to be exactly what I needed.
This quote is not just about accepting disappointment. It is about recognizing that life does not always follow my plans, but that does not mean it is failing me. Maybe I wanted a specific opportunity, but another one (the one I never considered) opened up instead. Maybe a relationship did not work out, but it made space for someone better to enter my life.
The key is effort. If I sit back and do nothing, I am just waiting for luck. But if I keep trying, keep pushing forward, life has a way of delivering something valuable, even if it is not what I originally had in mind.
So, maybe not getting what I want is not a failure. Maybe it is just life’s way of leading me toward something better.
