“You can’t do better design with a computer, but you can speed up your work enormously.”
⏤ Wim Crouwel
My understanding
True design, the creative spark and thoughtful details, comes from the mind and experience of the designer. Computers help us work faster, but they don’t replace the intuition, skill, craft and care that go into creating something meaningful.
In my own experience, I’ve found that technology can simplify repetitive tasks or streamline complex projects, but the core ideas, the essence of good design, still come from human thought and intention. This quote is a reminder to stay connected to that creative side, using the computer as a tool but not relying on it to make the work great.
In the end, design is about human vision, not just digital precision.
Reminds me
- “A fool with a tool is still a fool.” I don’t know who said that, but this quote carries a powerful message. It reminds me that tools, no matter how advanced, don’t replace knowledge or skill.
