Go home

The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence; the past is a place of learning, not a place of living.

Roy T. Bennett

My understanding

The past is there to guide me, not to hold me back. It’s a place where I can reflect, learn lessons, and grow, but it’s not where I should stay.

It’s easy to get caught up in nostalgia or regret. We can spend so much time thinking about what could’ve been or what we should’ve done differently, but that’s not going to change the present.

It’s easy to get stuck in memories, whether they’re good or bad, but this quote reminds us that we should use the past as a reference point to grow and move forward.

Reminds me

  1. “If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.” from Paulo Coelho.

  2. “I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back.” from Maya Angelou.
