“Eagles fly because they have wings. Humans fly because they know how to cooperate in large numbers.”
My understanding
I love this quote from Yuval Noah Harari’s book “Unstoppable Us Vol2: Why the World Isn’t Fair”. It’s so true that humans are capable of achieving incredible things when we work together.
I mean, think about it, eagles are amazing creatures that can fly on their own, but humans can achieve so much more because we can cooperate with each other. We can share ideas, skills, and resources to accomplish things that would be impossible alone.
This quote makes me think about all the amazing things humans have achieved throughout history. Like, flying to the moon is just mind-blowing! It’s crazy to think that it took hundreds of thousands of people working together to make that happen. But it’s not just big achievements like that. Even in our daily lives, we rely on cooperation to get things done. Whether it’s working with classmates on a project or collaborating with colleagues at work, we’re always achieving more together than we could alone.
I think this quote is a great reminder of the power of teamwork and collaboration. It’s easy to get caught up in our own individual goals and forget that we’re all part of a bigger community. But when we work together, we can achieve truly amazing things. So, let’s keep spreading the message of cooperation and see what incredible things we can accomplish together!
The full version of that quote is:
“Eagles fly because they have wings. Humans fly because they know how to cooperate in large numbers. This is what makes us so powerful. All the big achievements of humankind, such as flying to the moon, were the result of cooperation between hundreds of thousands of people.”
